The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is expected to get roughly half of the proposed $6 billion increase in the National Security Ministry's budget.

According to Permanent Secretary in the National Security Ministry, Courtney Williams, this almost $3 billion increase is significantly larger in comparison to the previous financial year.

"Even with the impact of the COVID over that two-year period, which would have significantly impacted government revenue - over that period from 2020 to now - the JCF has received a 20 per cent increase in their recurrent budget," Mr. Williams noted.

In response to questions from members of the Public Administration and Appropriations Committee (PAAC) on Wednesday, Mr. Williams gave a breakdown of how the JCF's additional $2.9 billion would be spent.

He said a "significant portion" will be allotted for police uniforms as well as weapons, while the other bulk of the funds will go towards increased fuel costs since the force had acquired more vehicles.
