Boyz draw with Haiti

The friendly international between Jamaica's Reggae Boyz and Haiti ended in a draw Saturday night at the Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

This was courtesy of an 88th minute goal from Damian Stewart.

New newcomer Nicholas Addlery of the Puerto Rico islanders opened the scoring for the Boyz but Haiti found the net in the 40th and 66th minutes.

Roland Dean was part of the main strike force for Boyz with Eric Vernon, Jason Morrison, Richard Edwards and Wolry Wolfe in the midfield.

Claude Davis, Stewart, Rafe Wolfe and Andre Campbell formed the main defensive unit to keeper Shawn Sawyers.

This friendly was part of preparation for the CONACAF Gold Cup in the United States which will begin on July 3rd.

Hodges rates high - Barnes

And the debate continues over the non-selection of the National Premier League's leading striker Devon Hodges for Saturday night's game, continues.

More reports have surfaced that Hodges did not get a United States Visa because the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) did not try to secure one.

However speaking with RJR Sports from Florida on Saturday, national Coach John Barnes said the Rivoli United player was never selected for the squad, although he would have been in contention for a place if he had the necessary travel documents.

"Whether the visa was there or not, I wanted to see him play ... the JFF wants to see him there because they recognize the sort of player he is. We knew that the visa was not available but that didn't stop us from picking him because that's how high he rates. We'll be looking to see if he is included later on so it's just a question of looking at him," said Barnes.
